Before you begin

This challenge introduces participants to computational thinking and rocket engineering. Teams will use digital tools and analytical reasoning to solve a defined rocket design problem.

The challenge

Develop a digital solution to a rocket engineering problem using simulation, modelling and design reasoning.

  • Analyse the engineering problem provided by the organisers.
  • Develop a digital model or simulation-based solution.
  • Use appropriate assumptions and engineering reasoning.
  • Evaluate the performance of your design.
  • Present the final solution clearly.

What you need to do

Participants will work through the given engineering problem and produce a simulation-backed design solution.

  • Understand the problem statement before beginning the design.
  • Create the required digital model or simulation.
  • Record relevant inputs, assumptions and outputs.
  • Analyse the results and refine the design.
  • Present the final solution to the judges.

Design and analysis

A strong solution should combine technical reasoning with clear interpretation of simulation results.

  • Use logical engineering assumptions.
  • Document important design parameters.
  • Compare results where multiple approaches are possible.
  • Identify limitations in the model or simulation.
  • Explain why the final design was selected.

Evaluation

Solutions will be evaluated on engineering reasoning, simulation quality, analysis and presentation.

Correct use of modelling or simulation methods and meaningful outputs.

Ability to interpret results and make evidence-based design decisions.

Rules

Participants must use the software, resources and competition format specified by the organisers.

  • Use only permitted software and resources.
  • Do not submit another participant's work.
  • Document major assumptions and design decisions.
  • Follow the competition time limits.
  • Unsafe or inappropriate submissions may be disqualified.
